Cradle of humankind & maropeng
The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site and its countryside are a few minutes’ drive away including the Maropeng Visitors Centre and the Sterkfontein Caves. This area is the “birthplace of humanity” where fossils dating back 3 million years can be viewed and the fascinating history of our origins explored. Numerous restaurants and breweries are also attractions in the area that make for a great day out.

Walter Sisulu botanical garden
The gorgeous Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens are a few kilometres from Amadwala Lodge and an idyllic setting for picnics and strolls. The Witpoortjie Waterfall flows within the gardens and Joburg’s only known nesting pair of Verreaux's (black) eagles can be spotted there. Laid back, daytime music concerts are occasionally on the go over weekends making for a wonderful excursion.
Rhino & lion park
The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve is less than a 30 minute drive from Amadwala Lodge and set in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site too. This private game park has over 600 wild animals that visitors can encounter including its lions, buffalo, rhino, crocodiles and many more.
Game drives, guided walks, wildlife talks, displays and other activities are on offer.
